I was recently looking at the dogs owned by the American Presidents. There was only one who didn’t have a dog.

That would be the one who described dogs as "treacherous and venal".

Who was that Mike?
Nixon?

I have owned two West Highland White Terriers.
Lovely temperaments.
A mixed breed ,clever, could play the piano, but like Eric Morecombe ,all the right notes but not necessarily in all the right places.
A Scottie(  Aberdeen Terrier) ,a gloomy little dog,  “ We are doomed, doomed!)
A glorious Irish Setter ,superb ,a gentle  giant, made me feel like a millionaire
when out walking her.
Then my naughty Patterdale, well grandson’s really  but lived with us, phew,
dynamite on legs!
Her sire was the Hunt Terrier!!! Dam  a family pet.
Her intelligence meant so easily trained and thus obedient ,very , but she needed to be.
We played for  a good while each evening ,obedience really but through games and agility. She adored that 45 minutes ,and I had a lovely ,bright ,obedient Tasmanian  Devil!
I wish she was still here.

When you consider we and dogs do not  speak  the same language ,all credit to dogs for being as reasonsble as they mainly are.
Oh I want a dog !
Viktoria,

I will admit to not really being a dog person, however I do like looking at them, and as Ruskie says, these photos are wonderful. Thanks Erato.

I was surprised recently to find this 1922 photo of my grandmother with dog - didn't know she had one. Not quite the same as the formal photos, but a nice back garden pic.

Unsure of the words used, but yes, that’s the one. ;D

Your grandmother looks lovely with her little doggy friend Maddy.

I think some people who aren’t fussed about dogs can be converted if they get to know one. A dog is a wonderful creature.

That man has the vocabulary of a poorly educated ten-year-old.  'Venal' would be beyond him.  I believe that opinion of dogs was said about him not by him.

You're probably right. "Bigly bad, very very bad, so bad" would be more likely.

As for Nixon, his cocker spaniel, Checkers, was the subject of a very famous political speech by that sociopathic president.
