Help with 1440 document on AALT
« on: Saturday 03 September 22 03:24 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

I'm hoping some kind soul could translate a 3 line CP document on AALT (18 Henry VI, 1439/1440: CP40no717).

The original image is here, about 2/5ths the way down the page, but I'll also attach the relevant part below:
http://aalt.law.uh.edu/AALT1/H6/CP40no717/aCP40no717fronts/IMG_0723.htm

Thanks in advance,
David

Sorry I can't help although I'm interested in what CP & AALT mean?

Simplified...

The 5th entry is the relevant one.

CP - Common Pleas rolls
AALT - Anglo-American Legal Tradition.

AALT is a large archive of scanned & indexed documents from Medieval and Early Modern England from the National Archives, hosted by the University of Houston Law Center (http://aalt.law.uh.edu).

It's a postponement, because not enough jurymen have turned up. The case for William Spert, the plaintiff in a plea of debt against Thomas Assherst of Kingsnorth, Kent, husbandman, is to be heard within 15 days of Trinity; the sheriff is instructed to put up six suitable jurymen and have them in court.

Thanks. Alas, there's no trace of any previous or subsequent mention of this case.
