Herbert Sadd - born Marlingford, Norfolk in 1864
« on: Sunday 04 September 22 21:31 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know of Herbert Sadd of Norfolk 1874-1945. He was a bricklayer and musician who spent some time in London around 1890s-1903. Looking for info to consolidate family tree and history.

Many thanks,
Dominic.

Thanks all for your very helpful replies and, CaroleW, I can see that would be helpful!

He is an intriguing figure and I believe there is a close family link to him. The main bits of info I am trying to find:
- his whereabouts in the 1901 census from which he seems to be missing; he marries in Kensington in 1903 and then goes back to Norfolk but I am interested in his time in London Did he have any li ks to the East London area in particular? Are there electoral records to fill in this period? His brother Harry is in Chelsea in 1901 though listed as Henry.
- what was his address in the 1939 survey? I think he built the house in Marlingford himself so it would be interesting to know where that was.
- Thirdly , any record of him as a performer- we know he was a musician but the photo with the performing dog (posted by Neale1961 above - for which many thanks) suggests there was more tjan just his dulcimer playing - did he have a stage act during his time in London?

All info welcome!

Easily found with Alice.  We are not supposed to give details. But if you use his correct year of birth, ie not the one in your opening post  ;D,  he is the first option.
You will have to “walk” down the road to identify the property

They are in the 1921 too.  You would have to pay for the images of that entry on FindMyPast.  But that might give you a more accurate location.

Ah right, understood.

And most sources have 1864 as his year of birth - and Feb 29th, no less. He died on Jan 6th 1945 at the age of 80 so I think it's correct.

Have you got his marriage certificate? Is he a bricklayer or a musician on that?
I can see nothing obvious re music in newspapers.

Hi mckha489- I don't have that, no though there is a fair number of references to both his bricklaying and his musicianship.

I really need ro place Herbert in the 1901 census, especially if he were in the London/Essex borders  possibly around around Wanstead or Ilford - for that year.

Thanks for your reply, though.
Dominic.
