McCallion from Ballindreen Scotch, Coleraine circa 1900 - 1930's
« on: Tuesday 06 September 22 15:55 BST (UK) »
Greetings,
I have been greatly interested in my mother's side of the family (McCallion) from the Coleraine area.  Since she was orphaned in her infancy, she never knew her mother  Bridget McCallion, daughter of Daniel and Bridget McCallion.  My grandmother would also have had several sisters and one brother: Elizabeth, Mary, Catherine, Ellen Isobel, and brother John.
It has been a laborious search looking for anyone that knows relatives of my mum.  My mother was raised in the Nazareth home in Derry city.

It would be great to talk to someone or get to know anything other than official records about this family.

Thanks

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Can you maybe add some dates to your narrative?

Would this be your reference to Ellen Isobel?
Ellen Isabella McCallion born 4 June 1909.   MMN McCrudden

Northern Constitution, 11 Feb.1911: Bridget M'Callion, Ballindreen, summoned Lizzie Moody, same townland, for on the 14th December using abusive and threatening language.  There was crosscase by Mrs. Moody against Mrs. M'Callion for similar offence. ...

Hello All,

So my mother, Margaret McCallion was born on the 11th of August 1932, my grandmother, Bridget McCallion was born in 1909.  Bridget appears on the 1911 census in 14 Ballindreen Scotch, 2 yrs old.

See census..  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Londonderry/Knockantern/Ballindreen__Scotch/590336/

I appreciate all your replies..

Good to have found Margaret's birth (I had to go out earlier). We don't know name of OP's mother but parents alive at least until 1917.

Searched deaths 1922-1935 in Coleraine district in GRONI's database and this is the only one for a Daniel McCallion-
D/1934/94/1008/30/4   Daniel   McCallion   9th May 1934   65 (age fits with 1911 census)

Didn't find death for a Bridget McCallion so expanded the search to all districts in N.I. and only one close is this one (not likely)-
D/1936/221/1027/29/394   Bridget   McCallion   9th November 1936   62      Strabane
