Annuitant in 1851

I am trying to trace a relative and have found a sister who is listed as independent in the 1841 Census and an annuitant in the 1851 Census aged 73 in Mintlaw, but then disappears and I cannot find death, she is called Jean Craig.   Any ideas why she would be an annuitant?  I cannot find any marriage for her, nor in fact birth so no idea of her parents.  Thanks for any advice.

Hmm, I suppose a sibling or even her parents could have left her a sum of money. Or perhaps an ex employer?

Perhaps she was a vulnerable person, had a disability or something, so special care was taken of her by her family?
