John Tattersall b. 1821 Sabden, Lancashire
« on: Tuesday 13 September 22 16:44 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me break my brick wall, I am trying to find more information on John Tattersall's parents.

My 4th great-grandfather is John Tattersall b. 19 Feb 1821 in Sabden, Lancashire and was baptised 18 April 1821 at Wesleyan Methodist, Clitheroe, Lancashire, England, I have the baptism record and it states his father is Richard Tattersall and mother is Elizabeth but I do not know her maiden name.

John Tattersall married Ellen Banks 25 September 1850 in Ormskirk, Lancashire, on their Marriage Banns it states Richard Tattersall is John's father so I know I have John's correct father.

I have found Richard Tattersall and Elizabeth on the 1841 Census living in Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, England and also on the 1851 Census living in Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, England.

Any information to help break my brick wall will be very much appreciated  :)

The 1851 shows a big difference in age.  Richard is 54 & Elizabeth is 65
1841 he's 44 & she's 52

On the 1841 Census Richard is estimated to be born in 1797 and Elizabeth is estimated 1789, on the 1851 Census Richard is estimated to be born in 1797 same as the 1841 Census and Elizabeth is estimated to be born in 1786 so her estimated birth has been reduced by 3 years compared to the 1841 Census. I have known Census records for other people to be more than 3 years from their actual DOB so I still believe I have the correct Richard and Elizabeth.

Yes - I agree.

The age difference could possibly indicate Elizabeth had been previously married but very difficult to say until a marriage can be found.

As she was from Rossendale & he was from Habergham Eaves - you may want to have a look at the possibility they could have married in either area

I have been taking a closer look at the 1841 Census where Richard and Elizabeth are residing at Walkers Tonerment, Habergham Eaves, Lancashire, also living with them is John Nuttall born abt. 1770. I wonder if this could be Elizabeth's father?

Further down on the Census is a John Tattersall born abt. 1766 living with a Susannah, I wonder if John Tattersall is Richard's father?

I am still researching to see if there is a link. Any help would be very much appreciated  :)

Were there any children with them on 1851 census?
Have you found baptisms for John Tattersall's siblings?
