Top of the Lee
« on: Friday 16 September 22 07:15 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know where Top of the Lee is/was. I found the address on a Bishop's transcript for the baptism of Sarah Pickup in 1831. Her parents were George Pickup (Farmer) and Alice - have been unable to ascertain her maiden name. I also found the address on a Census return where it been transcribed as "Toppa the Lee."

There is also a burial record for Alice Pickup b. abt. 1779 and died Sept/Oct 1851, "widow of George Pickup," Shuttleworth. I think they might have been Sarah P's grandparents.

Was this a family farm or was it simply the name of a place and there were a number of farms.

Many thanks in advance.

Wow! So much help, can't thank you all enough. This family has been driving me slowly nuts because a few other researchers have Sarah with a different set of siblings, but this puts it into context for me.

It's one mile by road from there to Edenfield. Maybe shorter if there are footpaths across the fields.
