Thomas Rice, father of Stephen Edward Rice, grandfather of Thomas Spring-Rice
« on: Saturday 17 September 22 17:51 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for information about Thomas Rice, but am finding it difficult to sort through all of the Thomas Rices. This Thomas Rice was married to Mary FitzGerald (sister of the Knight of Kerry) and was the father of Stephen Edward Rice of Cappa/Mount Trenchard in Limerick, who married Catherine Spring, and they were the parents of Thomas Spring-Rice.

I cannot find information on the parentage of Thomas Rice, although if I am understanding this deed correctly, where he is referred to as Thomas Rice Stephen, his father's name was Stephen. In the document he is identified as being from Dublin, and the property is in Kerry.

I am looking for a copy of Thomas Rice's will, if it exists. He died on Feb 3, 1806. I'm trying to understand the ownership of the property mentioned in the above deed, and how it passed to and through the Rice family.

Hi, came across the parish register which says that Thomas Rice late of Mair Farm in county of Limerick, esquire, was buried in parish of Dingle the 9th Feb 1806.
The Honorable Stephen Edmond Spring Rice of Mt Trenchard,Limerick died 9 May 1865 at sea, his will was probated with the beneficiary being his wife Ellen Mary Spring Rice the widow the effects being under £2000.Another snippet says Stephen was born 13 Aug 1814. The info on the will can be seen on Familysearch.org. There is also snippets there as well- the family seems to have ties with Surrey,England. You could e-mail the National Library in Dublin &the Nationsl Archives in Dublin. They may be able to direct your search further. Irishgenealogy.ie has bits on Rice family too. Kim

You say "this deed" - which deed?
Where did you find it?

The memorials of the Registry of Deeds are indexed by both location, and grantor. Using the index you should be able to determine how the lands came to the Rice family - assuming the deed was registered, of course.

Is this your man? - Thomas Rice, Esquire, Prerogative Will 1806, residence Adair Farm, Co. Limerick

While the original 1806 Prerogative will is unlikely to exist, it is possible that it is one of those for which William Betham made an extract - these are available.
