Help with death record
« on: Monday 19 September 22 21:32 BST (UK) »
I am researching on behalf of someone else and I don't have much experience with Irish records, so wondering if someone can solve this issue for me.
I've seen a photo of a grave which gives the date of death for Margaret Mary Healy (nee Carter) as June 22nd 1941. She and her husband Thomas (d1975) lived in Drogheda, Co. Louth.
I have searched the civil records using various name combinations and CANNOT find the death certificate for her.
Any help appreciated.

Hi

How certain are you about her date of death being 1941?

When Margaret Carter married in 1930, she gave her age as 22 - so born approx 1908.   See

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1930/09049/5274296.pdf

There is the death in Co Louth on 28 July 1942 of a Margaret Healy also married  and age 34, so also born approx 1908.   Could this be her?

Regards

What is the inscription on the headstone?

I'm sorry, that's a typo - it is her *death* record I am primarily interested in. But thank you for the birth info, that matches what I had thought.

Here is the grave in question. The information for her husband is definitely correct.

This 1942 death looks like a strong match to me - her age and usual address of Coolagh St. But I've just never seen a grave inscription be *so* far wrong before?! Especially as it specifically says on the grave that it was erected by her widower...

Hi

I've been giving this more thought, but haven't come up with another 'strong' possibility.

So many things about the 1942 Death match up including the address, plus we can't (so far) find a 1941 Death for Margaret/Mary.

I wonder when that headstone was erected?  It may have been years after Margaret died and Thomas got the dates mixed up.

If you know which graveyard that 1941 headstone is in, would it be worth ringing to see if they can confirm which year the burial took place - was it 1941 or 1942?

Kind regards

That's a very good idea, I'll try that  :)
