Date please for possible Jack Ream of Chicago, and a tintype
« on: Thursday 22 September 22 12:16 BST (UK) »
Can anyone offer a date for this photo. I am guessing plus-minus 1910? Is the hairstyle possibly a Marcel Wave?
1 A date would help confirm this cabinet card as Jack Ream one of the people in a recent thread I have posted relating to the family of Carl Anderson.

2 Also the double portrait likely taken in Chicago. It is a tintype. A top-buttoned jacket... is this what was known as a sack suit and could they be still be worn in 1900s? I suspect the tintype may be late 1880-90s?  Would be good to get a 2nd opinion.

Date estimates much appreciated.

OK. first off the Marcel Wave was a 1920's women's style.
Men on their own can be difficult to date as their dress style
didn't change with the same frequency as women's.
However 1880's/90's is about as close as one could get.
One of the reasons why it's not later is the absence of
trouser creases which became the norm particularly on
formal/business wear which this man is wearing.
Pic. 2 could be earlier 1870's/80's.
Fastening the top button was quite common for men
1860's/70's as was the contrasting ensemble of the man on the right.

Thanks once again Jim1. That discounts both photos from being what I thought they might be which is always helpful.
