German Family Kleins
« on: Wednesday 28 September 22 04:22 BST (UK) »
My Great grandmother was Doretta Christina Klein.
Think died 1907. Buried Walhalla, Victoria Australia.   Husband John Mitchell. (Cornish)
Think married around Walhalla or Traralgon Victoria.  Think her relatives were butchers.
She died I think at about 36 yrs age of cancer.
Don't know much about her life. She had 8 children.  My grandmother was one of the 8.
Ethel Alice Beck (Nee Mitchell.)
Any information I would be grateful for on Klein family, and especially on Doretta (Dora) Christina Klein.
Thanks for letting me join.

Dorothy Christina was born in 1861.

Other children of Charles KLEINE and Mary MOONEY were:

1861 Dorothy Christina  (at "Yack'dah" - not sure, is this "Yackandandah"?  :-\
1863  Charles Frederick  (died 1920)
1865  Thomas          (at Matlock)
1867  Alice                (at Woods Point)
1869  Henry               (at Woods Point)
1873  Edward            (at Matlock)
1875  Elizabeth Ann   (at Matlock)
1878  Agnes            (at Matlock)
1882  Ernest William  (at Matlock)

Charles Frederick William KLEINE married Mary MOONY in 1860 in Victoria (1378 / 1860) If you were to purchase this certificate it should have their parents' names and occupations.

It appears Charles KLEINE was landlord of the Junction Hotel at Upper Yackandandah.  An advertisement from 1862 here:
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article112900161  (5th column, towards the bottom)

and bankrupt in 1862
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article112900332  (1st column, bottom)

Charles Frederick KLEINE died in 1898 at Walhalla aged 74. (Parent's unknown)
Mary KLEINE died in 1918 at Rosedale aged 75. (Parents - Michael and Alice MOONEY)

A lovely obituary for Mary KLEINE here:
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article134296971
Says she was born in Tipperary, Ireland and in Victoria for 61 years.

An obituary for Charles KLEINE here:
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article59432870 (top right hand side)
and http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article264500749

Quite a few more articles mentioning the KLEINE family on trove. Use various search terms like "Charles Kleine", "C F Kleine" etc and limit to "Victoria":

Meant to add last night that Dorothy Christina's brother (Charles Frederick) was  a butcher. There are numerous items on trove that mention him, and his will can be read here:
