Looking for the births of Thomas Chappell and Mary Penton - 1770s
« on: Thursday 29 September 22 12:14 BST (UK) »
Thomas Chappell and Mary Penton married in 1791 in Whiteparish, Wiltshire, England. Thomas is resident of Stapleton, Gloucestershire and Mary Penton is resident of Whiteparish.

What I cannot find is their births.

They have three daughters (at least):

Ann Chappell (b. 1792)
Hannah Chappell (b. 1797)
Frances Chappell (b. 1810)

Hi
The burials at Stapleton Holy Trinity
Thomas 27.11.1821 born 1765
Mary 14.8.1833 born 1767 both of Stapleton.
Thomas left a PCC Will but it leaves everything to Mary.He is a tailor.

children  Ann 18.5.1792 ,Mary 26.7.1794, Thomas 31.8.1794 -12.10.1796 (checked them out and they are both there), Hannah and Martha 21 Feb 1796 (Martha buried 21.6.1797 ) ,Jane 29.1.1798 and Martha 27.10.1799 Jane 15.11.1801 born Oct 22,Elizabeth 10.7.1803 born 18 June ,Sarah 27.5.1806 born 29 April,Susannah 30.8.1807 born 2nd and Francis 13.2.1810 a son.

I may have  missed some as they are not coming up on the search form and I had to do them manually.
Can't spot a baptism for Thomas but there is a gap 1755-1769 Stapleton Ht on Ancestry

There is a John Penton witness on their marriage and a Henry Penton buried at Whteparish 22.6.1787.

A possibility - There is a Thomas CHAPPEL baptised 13 April 1766 at Didmarton to parents Jacob and Ruth.

Jacob was also a tailor (appears in the "Register of Duties Paid for Apprentices' Indentures" at Oldbury).

Jacob CHAPPELL married Ruth RODWAY on 7 March 1763 at Oldbury.

"Monday the 7th was married at Oldbury Mr. Jacob Chappell, eldest Son and Heir of Mr. Thomas Chappell of Oldbury, to Miss Ruth Rodway of the same place."
   Thursday,  Mar. 17, 1763
Publication: Public Advertiser

Though no children born to Thomas and Mary are named "Jacob" or "Ruth", so perhaps not.  :-\

Thomas Chappell was living in Stapleton, Gloucestershire at the time of his marriage. Would he have moved from Oldbury to Stapleton (19 miles)? That's where I am unsure. But then Mary Penton was from Wiltshire which is 60-odd miles from Stapleton - they married there.

If Mary was a little older than the informant on her burial record thought, this might fit
Mary Penton bapt 17 Jan 1762 Landford Wilts d/o Thos and Mary
There is a marriage of a Thomas Penton and Mary Barns in Bramshaw on 30 Jul 1761 botp.
There is a burial of a Mary Penton in Landford on 20 Apr 1763 wife of Thomas.

There is a marriage of a Thomas Penton wid to Flora Frie widow in Bramshaw on 27 mar 1785. They have two children Henry 1787 and Flora 1788 in Bramshaw. Burial of Flora Penton in 1808 age 63 (b abt 1745) age seems possible for a widow remarrying in 1785 and having two children in her early 40s. Burial of possible Thomas in 1798 age 62 ( b abt 1836) in Bramshaw. There is a Thomas Penton bapt 06 Jun 1736 in Bramshaw s/o Thomas no mother recorded.

There is a Thomas Penton died 16 Feb 1772 age 75 (b abt 1697) grave ref 91075 and an Ann Penton died on same day no age mentioned grave ref 91074, so maybe his wife was Ann.

The first male child of Thomas and Mary Chappell was called Thomas.
