Are baptisms for Cavan digitized anywhere?
« on: Thursday 29 September 22 21:41 BST (UK) »
Hello everyone. I am looking for a baptism for a woman named Fanny McVeity/McVitty, Catholic, died in 1892, and according to her death record, she was born in 1836. She had a child baptized at Staghall/Drumlane, so I assume that would be the parish she was born in.

I have found the Drumlane parish register online:
https://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0831
But the writing is a bit hard for my eyes to make out, and I wondered if there were possibly any site with Irish, specifically Cavan, baptisms digitized/with a search function.

Thanks a lot.

Both Ancestry and FindMyPast have a free, fully-searchable database of local parish records from all 32 counties in Ireland.

Be aware that some records may be mis-transcribed or difficult to find with Ancestry & Find My Past. If you do find a possible record on one of those sites you can then search the original register.

Fanny's son Samuel was baptised at Belturbet in September 1854, parents Samuel BLYE and Fanny McEVITE.

The Belturbet registers start in 1845.

Well done Debra. I had tried searching to no avail.
I thought Blyth/e would be simpler than Fanny’s name.  :)

I have just spotted this and thought I would post it because of the name.

‘On the 19th inst. at the patriarchal age of 104, Mr John McVity of Belturbet.’

Hello everyone! Oh, thank you very much! I will see what I can find.

RE the 1844 reference to John McVity living to be 104, wow! I will need to look that up.

Heya :) Thanks for that. Can anyone make out the writing after it says Fanny McVeitie? Does it say where she was from or anything like that?

No wonder I couldn’t find it. Transcribed as ‘Damuelem McEdite with parents Leman and Janna’. So close  ::)
