My new grandson, and first grandchild arrived around 9 PM our time last night (2 AM today in the UK), after a long labour, Mum and Dad exhausted but ecstatic.  Murphy Alan, 8 lbs 6 oz., not as big as predicted, only 1 oz more than his dad was.  Saw a couple of pics, hard to tell much - he looked exhausted and was wearing a cute knitted blue hat, like a winter tuque!
Took me a long time to get to sleep!

Congratulations Diana
Not surprised  you didn't sleep, I didn't   sleep the night my daughter was in labour, not surprising really
Nice size,  my daughter was 3lbs less but was a long baby   and grew to be quite tall
As I said previously  you will  gave many happy times to come
Hope they are all well

Congratulations to angelfish and Diana on your new Grandchildren!  :D You must both be feeling very excited and proud right now!  Hope you can sleep well Diana when you gradually get down from cloud nine. ;)

We have a family story about the name Veronica, angelfish.  It is said that my Auntie Mary, now deceased, was originally going to be called Veronica if my Grandmother had got her way. However, my Grandfather was sent off to register the birth and he returned saying the name was Mary.  His excuse was he preferred this name as he couldn't spell  Veronica but could spell Mary.  I suspect perhaps he may have just wanted to name my Aunt after his own sister Mary and was determined to get his way. 8)

I suspect you are correct. My grandad registered my mum and named her Mary after his mother and not the name he'd agreed with grandma.
