Mary Anne's death in September 1917:

https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1917/05202/4437685.pdf

As was often the case, he didn't wait long to remarry.

No l was shocked at that too.

Somebody had to take care of the children.

Didn't think of that and it was different back then.

I wasn't sure if this was the right James in the census so wasn't keen on adding it but am guessing it could be the right one if the places are close by.

If the 1907 marriage is the correct couple then here they are in 1911-

Thank you so much for confirming the marriage cert l found which show that James's first wife was Mary Weir.

I now just have to find their daughter Lily who is proving a little harder to find.  She was my Grandmother.  I guessed that she was born in 1911 going by the age on her headstone.  She was buried as Lily McFarland which l was told was her first married name and he died leaving her with 3 small children and then she remarried a Sam Cunningham around 1943/44 but l can't find a birth record for a Lily Weir anywhere from 1911 onwards.

I also thought it weird that she was buried under McFarland and not Cunningham as that was her married name.  I have tried Elizabeth and Lilian but nothing.  Would Lily be short for anything esle?

I really do appreciate all your help

Thank you.  I have managed to find those children but not my missing Lily McFarland/Weir which makes me wonder if she was always a McFarland and not a Weir as that was the name she was buried under (just find it strange that she wasn't buried under her married name Cunningham or Weir like her parents).

May have to keep looking for this one.  Maybe her name was something else and she liked Lily and used that - who knows.

Thank you again

Thank you.  I was just searching through the McFarlands born in the area.  I did wonder if she might have been born to Matilda Ann McFarland before she married James Weir, hence the inscription on the headstone.   I wonder why she called herself Lily - doesn't link with Susan.

Tahnk you again

Susannah/Susan mean lily in Hebrew but the child was called Sarah Catherine. Notice that mother signed with her mark.
Matilda Ann (McFarland) Weir also used her mark for 1917 marriage and birth of daughter Martha in 1918.
One thing which may or may not throw some light on Lily is school registers. By the time she was born the Infants Register might have given an exact date or month and years (should at the very least probably show age in years & months). Second register when she got into older grades should also record similar details. Presuming she was originally Sarah Catherine and born 1912 then she might have started school c1916- before 1917 marriage. Even if she was entered as Lily it should show if she was called McFarland. PRONI do have a large collection of registers (listed in their e-catalogue).
Also, any trace of a baptism?
