French baptism 1725
« on: Thursday 13 October 22 21:22 BST (UK) »
This is from the register of Montigny en Arrouaise, a tiny place near Fieulaine in Aisne, northern France.

When I was kindly sent the information about this burial some time ago, it was stated that in it, it said Antoine came 'from Fieulaine'.
However, having just found the actual register, and his burial, I can't see that it mentions Fieulaine.

I would be grateful if somebody could check my attempt at a transcription and make any corrections. Many thanks.

Hi goldie61
It looks like the name is Rabatte.
The above link shows the name of Anthoine Rabatte. The page also contains references to Abraham Legrand. There is no reference to Nicolas Claude Eliot... but a Nicolas Claude Rabatte...
See also the thread on rootschat entitled  "Topic: Help searching for French wives" which refers to Antoine Rabatte. Hope this helps.

I think it is "sainte" abbreviated as "ste".

Your transcription was fine. I made one with the accents you would expect if it were a modern text.

Thanks everybody for your interest and help.

That was an interesting link to geneanet celtic kids.
I've used geneanet a lot, but not found how you get a list of names in a place like you have done there. Very useful!
I think you'll find all the threads here on Rootschat about Rabate and French wives are mine!  ;)

Abraham Le Grand was the priest and Nicolas Claude Eliot another church official I think.
Abraham le Grand writes and signs all the entries in the register, and Nicolas Claude Eliot a good proportion of them.
