Elizabeth Powers in the Wyman family
« on: Thursday 27 October 22 08:14 BST (UK) »
Hello Everyone

I am having a problem confirming a Elizabeth Powers.   I have found 2 one born in 1720 Higham Ferrers and one born in 1727 Thorne both appear married to Daniel Wyman (born 1722) in 1743??, my thinking is that there are 2 Elizabeth's both born to Samuel and Martha Powers and are sisters and one had a child David with Daniel and the other had around 6 children, records that I can find state that he married both??  I cannot find any further information to confirm this or which Elizabeth Powers follows our line thru Daniel 1722 from Daniel Wyman born 1699 married to Elizabeth Eccles. Hoping that someone can point me in the right direction.
Thank you in anticipation.
Margaret

I'm not sure that I quite understand.

I can see the marriage of Daniel WYMAN and Elizabeth POWERS on 20 July 1743 at Higham Ferrers, both otp. There is a baptism for Frances WYMAN (dau of Daniel and Elizabeth) on 31 July 1743 (bu 15 Feb 1746) and various other children including David (or is it Daniel? - hard to read) (28 Jun 1745). Why do you think that there are two Elizabeth's?

I can't see a burial for a Elizabeth WYMAN between the baptism of David and the next child baptised (Elizabeth 9 May 1747). Nor another marriage.  ???

Modified to add:
Just thought I'd list the baptisms that I could see:
31 July 1743   Frances (bu 15 Feb 1746)
28 June 1745  David/Daniel
9 May 1747  Elizabeth
1 Oct 1749  Martha
26 May 1752  Sarah
19 Aug 1755  Samuel
27 Jun 1756  Frances (bu 15 July 1756)

Elizabeth POWERS bap 12 May 1720 at Higham Ferrers, dau of Samuel and Martha. Not entirely sure why you think there is another Elizabeth born to the same couple at Thorne (not sure where this is - do you mean in Doncaster?)

Thank you for your helpful reply I am sorry I did get confused with Samuel and a Sarah Powers, who had a daughter Elizabeth 1727, not Samuel and Martha my apologies.  Elizabeth born 1720 does indeed seem to be our Elizabeth looking at the Higham Ferrer Records she appears to have died in 1774, Daniel 1795.

Daniel born 1745 Higham Ferrers their son I think holds the key to the family more investigation tomorrow, thank you again.
Regards
Margaret

Hi Trish
Thank you Trish for your help again pointing me in the direction I needed to go and Elizabeth Powers is related but not in our direct line once this was confirmed it fell into place. I have finally got to near the end of the Wymans, I have 2 issues that I have been going around in circles trying to find one is Christopher Wyman born 1639 died 1717 (checks out at Higham Ferrers) he supposedly married someone called Mary or Marie, I have tried everwhere to find her surname prior to marriage which is possibly around 1664, no luck at all. Secondly I also have tried to find any information on a Daniel Wiman born around 1603 he married a Dorothie Jackson which checks out but cannot find a confirmation birth for him, he was born of a Daniel Wiman no birth date found for the Father/Mother or surname for the mother, the Wymans do have variants in their surnames, waymon, wiman, weimann, weismann have gone thru them to no avail at this stage pretty much haved reached a dead end, hoping you or fellow family historians might see or find something I am missing. Regards Margaret

The earliest baptism I can see for children of Christopher and Mary WYMAN/WYMON at Higham Ferrers is Daniel on 8 Jan 1661/2.
https://www.freereg.org.uk/search_records/581894b8e93790eca367a1e2

A number of other baptisms for their children on FreeReg.

So presumably their marriage is around 1660.
