Google using/accessing camera?
« on: Tuesday 01 November 22 16:30 GMT (UK) »
Every time I put my computer on in the morning, I get a message along the lines of Google has access to or is using your camera.

What does that mean  ???

I actually have the camera lens covered over with a small object so I doubt anything could be seen.

Because I am deaf I don't do zoom stuff or anything that requires a video link.  Perhaps I should find the bit on my computer that shuts off the camera?

Any advice/remarks etc will be appreciated.  Thank you.

Go to Settings and then Privacy to check if your camera is on or off.

Thank you Maiden Stone.  I've had a look and turned everything off that was on the page.  I assume from doing that nothing will be able to access the camera.

I hope it solves your query.
I went to Settings after reading your opening post to check whether my camera was on or off. It's been turned off for some time. I just removed some other things I don't use such as games.

I wonder if it could it be a fake notification. Some kind of “spam”. In fact “Google” is not more likely to have “access to your camera” than anyone else -- especially if you didn't enable it on purpose.

How does the message arrive, when you turn on your computer in the morning?

It's just a message at the top of my screen, in a green box if I recall correctly.  It's not there for very a long, a few seconds and then it goes.  It appears every time I turn my computer on and click on the Chrome button on my task bar.  It never appears again after that.

Google asks permission to use camera as on some applications  ( email/ chat/ messages / drive ) it sends/ stores receives images.

It's not a hijack.
