Translation
We, William, by divine providence Archbishop of Canterbury, Primate of all England and Metropolitan, do make known by the tenor of these presents that on the 29th day of August in the year of the Lord one thousand six hundred and sixty-one, at London, before the Worshipful William Merricke, Doctor of Laws, the lawfully constituted Master Keeper or Commissary of our Prerogative Court of Canterbury, the Will was published of Edward Gray of Winkfield in the county of Berkshire, in the diocese of Sarum and in our Province of Canterbury, deceased, annexed to these presents, who, whilst he lived and at the time of his death, had goods, rights or credits in various dioceses or jurisdictions in our Province of Canterbury; probate of his will having been obtained from the courts, publication of the administration of all and singular the goods, rights and credits of the aforesaid deceased, and an audit and final delivery and discharge of the account, calculation or reckoning, were also granted by us, in respect of those matters that are discerned to belong to us alone and totally, and not to any other judge of lower status; and administration of all and singular the goods, rights and credits of the said deceased, and of any matters whatsoever concerning his will, was granted to Joan Gray, the relict, and Simon Gray, the son of the said deceased, the executors originally named in this will, to well and faithfully administer the same, and to complete a full and faithful inventory of all and singular the goods, rights and credits of the said deceased and to submit it to our Prerogative Court of Canterbury on the second day after the Feast of St Andrew the Apostle next following, and also to render a plain and true account, calculation or reckoning thereof; sworn on the Holy Gospels of God. Given at the aforesaid day, month, year and place, and in the first year of our Translation.
