Can you take a look at this for me please, I've been stuck on it for about 10 years.  Its from the 1851 census

Mary Smith
Age:   26
Estimated Birth Year:   abt 1825
Relation:   Wife
Spouse's Name:   Joseph Smith
Gender:   Female
Where born:   Pemphew Catch, Breconshire, Wales
Civil Parish or Township:   Merthyr Tydfil
Town:   Merthyr Tydfil

Its my great 3rd great grandmother, - Pemphew catch does not exist to my knowledge, suggestions most appreciated. Thank you

Her maiden name was Vaughan.

Have you found them in 1861/71 to check birthplace

Son Ivor is visiting Vaughan relatives in 1861 in the parish of Pentrebach which sounds similar but is in Glamorgan - not Breconshire

The husband abandoned them in approx 1854 and ran off to America and at some point her and 2 kids were taken to High Littleton, Somerset under poor laws.  They vanish after this census.  I find no other record record of any of them :(

I think it’s written Penyrhiw Calch. Maybe should be Penrhiw Calch ?

That looks correct, Bookbox.

I read it as Penyrhew Calch and have just started looking for something like that on the maps.
