I think there may be some confusion here:

- William Withers, born 17th June 1770, baptised the same day at Leicester All Saints, the natural [i.e. illegitimate] son of Elizabeth Withers. No father's name is given; Withers would be her maiden name.

Then there is:

- William Withers married Elizabeth Harris on 12th February 1771 at Leicester St. Margaret's.

- William Withers, son of William & Elizabeth Withers, baptised on 28th February 1771 at Leicester St. Margaret's.

- William Withers, son of William & Elizabeth Withers, buried on 9th February 1772 at Leicester St. Margaret's.

Unless I am missing something, I don't think the William born in 1770 can be the child of William Withers & Elizabeth Harris.

Queenie  :)

Yes I did check on familysearch carol,
For William and Elizabeth all I get is Deceased for both  and no mention of parents

For William Withers (son of William)
I get William Withers dob 1770 and also that he married Sarah Shipley in 1792

As reply 2 above - The 1770 William was illegitimate & not the son of William Withers & Elizabeth Green.

Their son William was baptised 1771 & died 1772

If your ancestor is the 1770 William - then only one parent is known - Elizabeth Withers - unmarried

Not what you're asking for, but my Leicester Poor Law CD has a 1780 Apprenticeship Indenture for a William Withers aged 10 of St Nicholas, apprenticed to Thomas Gregory of Hinckley, who I believe was a FWK.

There is a marriage at St Margaret in 1778 for an Elizabeth Withers & John Creaton, and a baptism at St Nicholas in 1782 for John s/o John & Elizabeth Craton.

MORGAN: Glamorgan, Durham, Ohio. DAVIS/DAVIES/DAVID: Glamorgan, Ohio.  GIBSON: Leicestershire, Durham, North Yorkshire.  RAIN/RAINE: Cumberland.  TAYLOR: North Yorks. BOURDAS: North Yorks. JEFFREYS: Worcestershire & Northumberland. FORBES: Berwickshire, CHEESMOND: Durham/Northumberland. WINTER: Durham/Northumberland. SNOWBALL: Durham.

Sounds like it's the right William Withers that because in 1780 he would have been 10 years

I have him down as marrying Sarah Shipley in Oct 1792

Just need to find his father now
