John EVANS
« on: Monday 14 November 22 17:35 GMT (UK) »
John EVANS, a gardener, claims to have been born in 1811 in Llanbadarn Fawr or  Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn. He married Ann EDWARDS on 25th Sep 1835 in Llanbadarn Fawr.

A search for his baptism has yielded several possibilities, two of which seem more likely than the others, viz:-

27 Apr 1811 to Richard & Margaret

14 Aug 1811 to John & Margaret

and I cannot separate them. Can anyone help, please?

Hi,

Thinking out loud -

This is a bit of a guess but one of the witnesses at their marriage was a David Evans. Could he have been John's brother?

The censuses for John and wife Anne seem to suggest he was born Llanfinghangel, Cardiganshire and on Free Reg there are births of a David Evans in 1805 and John on 9 June 1811 to parents John and Margaret.

Urgh!!
Thought this might have helped but have just noticed there is also a David Evans born to Richard and Margaret in 1808 as well as the other John in 1811.

Sorry thought I might be on the right track - frustration reigns,

Alan

Hi,

Just looked again at Llanfihangel-y-Creuddyn area of Cardiganshire on Free Reg and the Richard and Mary parents have their John born 1809 and David 1811 at the same abode - Pantyffynnon whereas John and Margaret have two different abodes in 1805 (David) at Pantycleder and in 1811 (John) at Pyllau Isaf,

Quite confusing but on the basis, John was born c1811, I am now tending to favour John and Margaret as his parents as John and Anne also seem to have named two of their children John and Margaret.

Tall Al,

Humble apologies for my tardiness, but a family bereavement has played havoc with my concentration. I'm now trying to re-familiarise myself with the problem so that I can (hopefully) come up with some sensible comment.

Alan,

I'm getting more confused and having difficulty reconciling my dates with yours!

For parents Richard & Margaret, I have:-

David   22 Jun 1806
John     27 Apr 1811

For parents John & Margaret, I have:-

David   ?? Jan 1805
John    14 Aug 1811

I've not found a John in 1809 for either couple. Help!

George
