Trying to find Adelaide L A Coleman
« on: Friday 18 November 22 18:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
I am struggling to find Adelaide Louisa Alice Coleman's parents.
She married Henry James Barter (1873-1947) in 1893 in Hackney, London.
I have Adelaide (who went by Alice most of the time) on the 1901, 1911 and 1939 censuses.
1901: 11 Moyes Road, West Ham, London/Essex.
          ''Alice Barter b.1870''
1911: 49 Spencer Road/ Macdonald Road?, Walthamstow, London/Essex.
          ''Alice Barter b.1868''
1939: Trowbridge Road, Wiltshire
          ''Adelaide L A Barter b.31st January 1868''

I am assuming her birth date is 31.01.68 from the 1939 register, but that could be wrong.
I know her sister is Edith Coleman, born 1880 in Hackney (a dressmaker) from a census, but other than that I'm not sure.

Any help on finding her parents would be much appreciated thank you!
(I have done the Barter family so no need to find any information on them or Adelaide and Henry's children; just Adelaide and the Colemans)
 :)

edit: she died on january 5/6th 1955 in Surrey.

On her marriage certificate, it states that her father was Alfred Coleman, boot manufacturer.

She was baptised on 1st November 1879 in Hackney. The baptism record states that she was born on 31st January 1868, so she was 11 when she was baptised. Her parents are Alfred & Mary Coleman, with her father's profession listed as boot maker.

It seems that Alfred & Mary baptised 4 of their children on the same day.

For some reason I'm having trouble finding the baptism record, is it under Adelaide Louisa Alice Coleman, or just Adelaide?
Thanks,

Thanks,

Glad I could help. The baptism is under Adelaide Louisa Alice Coleman but I cannot see it on FamilySearch. I found the image of the register on Ancestry. It took place in St Mary, Haggerston, Hackney.

Also, here's the marriage of Adelaide's parents, just to get you started:

Alfred Coleman, shopman, son of George Coleman, boot maker, married Mary Anning, daughter of William Anning, stone mason, on 4th April 1866 in Southwark.

Here's the family on the 1891 census:

I don't want to ruin the fun of researching for you, so I'll stop here, but if you need any more help, just add to this thread.

Hmm, neither can I. Maybe it is an Ancestry exclusive?

I have attached a small snippet with Adelaide's baptism details.

She was baptised alongside her siblings, Rosann Ellen, Matilda Kate and Caroline Mary.
