McGourlick
« on: Sunday 20 November 22 18:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Hope someone can help or point me in the right direction! I have a relative named Grace nee McGourlick born in Ireland around 1829. She married James Broadley on 18thMay 1850 in Paisley. He was born 1827 in Ireland too. They had 3 sons Peter, William, James and a daughter Grace. I've no idea which part of Ireland they could be from and if I could maybe go further back into my family history! Please help!!

Hi Ali311

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Did Grace and James remain in Scotand. If they died after 1855 hopefully their death regs will included their full parents' names to try to work back to the next generation.

Sometimes a census entry can include some additional detail regarding birth place (rather than just Ireland).

Which denomination did they follow?
What details were given for parents at the 1850 marriage (if any) ?
How about on their death certs?

Use Scotlands people.  Pauline

There are RC baptisms for their children in the 1850s.

Ali, you will have this for sure, but just for background here...

Their entry just after their marriage in 1851:

James Bradley 25 Railway Labr b. Ireland
Grace Bradley 21 b. Ireland

Address: Main St, Lennoxtown, Stirlingshire

Added: Thanks, aghadowey  :) I have likely duplicated details! Looking at the old thread...I see I posted some info already  :-[

Was Grace a widow by 1881? A couple of possibilities for the death of a James Broadley in the Calton area 1871-81. More if you look at entries elsewhere in Glasgow. Have you checked these for him? Would really be the next stage for you to take.

The closest death for a Grace Broadley I can see is in 1883. This Grace showing as 46 yrs old. However, her other surname is showing as Goldie. Mistakes can happen so maybe worth checking regardless?
