1662 register in a very poorly state.
« on: Monday 21 November 22 20:54 GMT (UK) »
From the parish regiser of Hyon, near Mons, Belgium 1662.

You can see how much of the page has disappeared over time - both the left and right hand sides.
I’m interested in the middle baptism of somebody Carlier.
I’ve left the other baptisms with it for comparison of how much has of the page is no longer there, and the writing, though I’m not convinced they were all written by the same person.
Can anybody make out any letters of the son’s first name?
And I think the mother is Marguarite broke?

Thanks for any help

Many thanks Zefiro.
I could see the 'e', and possibly an 'r'................

That's an idea joger
It could be an 'h' instead of a 'k'.
I think the last letter is an 'e' though - it's that classic back-curl one.
Thanks for looking.

Marguerite BUOHE? Lots of the possible surnames are French names too - so a hard one.
Clarkson, Tolladay, Prevost, Killick, Hicks

Thanks manukarik.
A very tricky one.
As there is no father's name left to see on this entry, I think this may be where this particular line grinds to a halt!
There are pages missing from this register, plus as you can see, many of them that do survive are in a very bad state.

I have found quite a few families who come and ago across what is now the Belgium/France border which is very close to here. I think from time to time this area has been part of France.

Father's name is Piere (with one r)
godfather: Henry ...
godmother: Adriene ...

And yes you're right: a lot of missing pages, and those that survived are in a very bad state.
