Identify this medal please

Can someone tell me what this WW1 medal was awarded for?
It belongs to my cousin's grandad (along with many others) Frank Taylor b 1892 in Macclesfield.
I cannot find any service records for him. He was in the King's Liverpool Regiment.

It's not a medal, it's a lion claw pendant. Possibly a souvenir of service in the tropics.

As it was on a ribbon like his medals we thought it belonged in the same category.
