Rachel Murie Paterson nee Nisbet
« on: Thursday 24 November 22 11:11 GMT (UK) »
Hi Rootschatters
This is my great aunt.  She died in 2154 Barloch Road, Glasgow in July 1954, a widow of John Paterson - a watchmaker.  Was this some kind of home or hospital?
Her usual address was given as Apsley Street, Glasgow. Can anyone tell me how to find out where she is buried?

Thank you for your time and knowledge
She died from a cerebral atheroma which she had had for four years.  I am assuming the B was a G and you are right about it being a Mental Hospital.  Perhaps she had dementia!  I have looked at Apsley Street and it seems to be on the South side of the river, perhaps you can confirm if you know Glasgow.

Apsley Street is in the Thornwood/Partick area of Glasgow, north of the Clyde, running north of Dumbarton Road.

When/where did her husband die?

It would be an idea to chase his burial up as Rachel may be buried with him.

This link might be useful...

Thank you so much for your posts.
I have had a look at the Gartloch site - it certainly looks grim in the pictures.
Rachel is said to have the disease for four years, so presumably had been in Gartloch since 1950.  The address given is her daughter's address and she may have given up her mother's house in 1950 if not before so the address does not necessarily give us clues to where her husband was buried.  She died on 9th July 1954.  I don't know when or where her husband died as he was not always at home with her - he seemed to travel a lot.

"She died in 2154 Barloch Road, Glasgow in July 1954, a widow of John Paterson - a watchmaker.  Was this some kind of home or hospital?"...

Then you say...

"The address given is her daughter's address"...

You also say..."she may have given up her mother's house in 1950 if not before"...

It seems the house wasn't 'given up' as it was her mothers' 'usual address' at the time of her death...

"Her usual address was given as Apsley Street, Glasgow"...

The obvious thing to do would be to find the DC for husband John Paterson & find where he was likely buried & follow on from there...

"the address does not necessarily give us clues to where her husband was buried"...

Which is far from what I suggested...

When/where did her husband die?

It would be an idea to chase his burial up as Rachel may be buried with him.
...
All the more so as you said...

"I don't know when or where her husband died"

Her husband John died during the war and so would be buried in Europe.

Thank you
