Passenger List - passenger wording
« on: Saturday 26 November 22 22:18 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I would just like an interpretation for the wording with the passenger Clara J. Parsons. The text written in pencil mentions the word "Voyage".

Please find image attached.

Kindest regards,

Ashley

It looks like "died in the voyage",
but without seeing it in the context of the whole page, it is difficult to offer other comments.

I think it’s badly written “died on the voyage”

The extract seems to be from a shipping manifest to N Z  Ship Lincoln arriving Canterbury in 1867.

No overwriting here, and I cannot locate any image with the overwriting.

The PARSONS appear bracketed as a larger family group with the THOMPSON S

There is a death registration  in  BT 158 Registers Of Deaths Of Passengers At Sea,
for an infant Parsons who died aboard the Lincoln 12/2/1867, female, aged 4 months, Mr & Mrs Parsons which looks to be quite possible?

The presentation of that passenger list differs from the "usual" format (in this case there is repetition of the immigrants' details).   ;D

PARSONS family - at Image # 22 .... and the overwritten entry can be found  earlier at Image # 3.

Here is an account of that voyage of the Lincoln.

This is from the Star , Christchurch and, as it is published in 1923 under the heading, "Early Shipping Days" one assumes it was previously published closer to the the actual arrival.

https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/TS19230929.2.87?items_per_page=10&query=+%22george+thompson%22+%22james+Parsons%22+++++parsons&snippet=true

However, it sounds like a rough kind of voyage and the death of a child is mentioned in the last paragraph. Consumption is mentioned as a cause, but it is not clear whther that applies to both deaths or that of the seaman.
