West Riding Mental Hospital, Aireborough, Yorkshire
« on: Tuesday 29 November 22 13:35 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

This is my first post.

I saw that there were already some queries about the West Riding Mental Hospital in Aireborough and that there were 3 mental hospitals in Yorkshire.

This is definitely the correct name for the one Im enquiring about because I found the correct information on the 1939 register.

My great uncle was there in September 1939.

My question is: can someone please tell me where I can find death and burial information for inmates (is that the correct term) for the hospital?

My great uncle was Harry Richman b. c. 1882 in Lithuania. He arrived in Leeds in 1903. His family were already living in Leeds.

Thank you in advance for any information you can share with me.

Regards
Angie1401

Googling West Riding Mental Hospital Aireborough I found the hospital had various names ending itís life as High Royds Mental Hospital. The records of the hospital are at the West Yorkshire Archives at Wakefield.

There is also a website dedicated to the hospital at www.highroydshospital.com

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me.

As it happens, by chance, I wrote to the West Yorkshire archives yesterday.

Hopefully they will have some news for me in a short while.

Regards
Angie

I think the records would be closed for 100 years tho I managed to obtain a 1924 record a decade ago

But could he be buried with parents or siblings . ( Were the family Jewish ? )

My mother has some DNA matches to people with Lithuanian RICHMANs but their trees don't go before Leeds . .or USA early 1900s

Hi Brigidmac,

Thanks for your reply.

West Yorkshire archives got back to me and were able to share the information with me.

I believe he was buried in Leeds.

I would be interested in sharing Richman from Lithuania information with you.

Not sure how to do that one on one because I dont think that the rest of this thread would be of interest to others.

Is this the 1911 entry for Harry Richman, aged 26 (born in Russia) with his mother, Annie aged 63 - living in Leeds?  Or a different family!
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Yes, thank you. This is the correct family in 1911 census and also in 1921 census. His age seems to change from census to census ..........

Ages and names are very variable when from that part of world .

I ll send you a message .The RICHMANs are quite distant to my mum but may be able to help with some things .

I found your tree on ancestry and couldn't find any common names .
