Who is Ada Winn
« on: Tuesday 13 December 22 11:16 GMT (UK) »
Hi Folks, I have a strange one. A Peter Winn born 1883 Chorley Lancashire marries an Ada. Both appear in the Census of 1911 and  so an as peter Winn and Ada Winn (Spouse and mother to two
children). On FreeBMD I find a marriage of Peter 1907 in Chorley Lancashire.
The census says Ada was born in Rochdale about 1886, but a search for Ada turns up nothing and the marriage records on FreeBDM shows two different possibilities.
A search of Ada's born in Rochdale 1886 turns up heaps of Ada's.
I understand that a Volume and Page of the same reference on BMD does not necessarily mean a match, so, who is Ada. This is her census info :
Peter Winn's Spouses and Children
Ada Winn, Wife, F, 25, Rochdale, Lancashire Name Ada Winn, Sex Female Age 25, Event Date 1911, Event Place Chorley, Lancashire, England, United Kingdom Event Place (Original) Chorley, Chorley, Lancashire, England, Sub-District Chorley Sub-District Number 4, Enumeration District 16, Registration District Chorley, District Number 475,

Can Ada be a nickname, maybe for Alice???
Marriages Mar 1907   on FreeBMD
BIBBY    Thomas        Chorley    8e   904
WALSH    Alice Ann         Chorley    8e   904
WALTERS    Edith         Chorley    8e   904
Winn    Peter         Chorley    8e   904

Any suggestions on how to nail a surname?
Regards all
Winn, Wynne, Wynd, Wind, Winde

 - this confirms that Peter Winn in 1907 married Edith Walters. The marriage was at a registrar's office so you will have to order it directly to find out what other info is on it.

Hi Cas and Jorose, OUTSTANDING!
Thank you so much, it makes some sense now. Thanks I will look at the sources now.
I was not aware of the Lancashire Index site, really useful.

BTW Cas, which free index do you mean, it also sounds most useful.
