Can someone please date this photograph and enhance if possible.
« on: Saturday 17 December 22 15:30 GMT (UK) »
This old man is believed to be Edward Rowles, Chimney Sweep. He was married to Esther (nee Cooper). They had a son called Welcome Edwin (known to the family as Edward), driving the motorbike.

I believe this man served in WW1 with the Nottingham & Derbyshire Regiment, No. 5383 & 203552.
On 21st March 1918 he was posted ‘Missing’.
Also on 21st March 1918 he was reported to be a ‘Prisoner of War’.
He is listed as being imprisoned in Altdamm Prison Camp.
This camp was on the banks of the ‘Oder’, which today is in Poland.
He gives his father as his next-of-kin living at 1 Fox Lane, Chertsey.
In the ‘1939 Register’ he is living at ‘The Nest’, Green Road, Egham, Surrey.
His occupation is given as ‘Incapacitated’.

He died in 1959 at Surrey N.W., age 72.

I forwarded the picture to the National Motorcycle Museum and they have told me the motorcycle was made prior to 1927 because of the type of headlamp used, i.s. acetylene type.
This helps a little bit.
I don't know if the registration is any help to anyone: PH6557.

Thanks Ian,
I think it does look a little better in colour.
Sometimes a splash is better than full colour.
I only wish I could locate the person who put the picture on-line.
Then maybe, just maybe, I could get a copy from the original witgh more detail.
I found it on Family History UK from a lady who signs herself Jenny C.
It is one of those sites where you cannot make direct contact so if the person does not use this site again then all is lost. I have left a message but I am not hopeful.
Thank you.
