William COLEMAN

Seeking information on William Coleman who married Elizabeth Buckingham 14 June Cheltenham Glos. It may help others to know that he had 9 children, the first ones all baptised in Oxford. His 5th child Elizabeth baptised 5 Feb 1816 married firstly, John William Walker. She later converted to the Mormon faith and left Liverpool on the Enoch Train to Utah. I have a wealth of information about her later life but cannot proceed to trace my Coleman line any further back. All I know for certain is William is documented many times as a musician. His son Frederick is my 2x great grandfather. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought, but have you traced the adult lives of all the children of William & Elizabeth? I'm just thinking about trying to find their burials/death registrations, which will provide an estimated year of birth. I can't see anything obvious for either William or Elizabeth in Cheltenham, so I am thinking they moved away? Often, elderly parents (especially mothers, but occasionally both mother and father) moved in with their eldest (married) daughters.

Yes I have traced all the children of William and Elizabeth Coleman. Many years ago I read a document from a 4th great grandaughter of Elizabeth Coleman, their daughter. She said that in 1828 after a musical performance, William Coleman never returned home and his family believed him to have been murdered! The plot thickens. I would like to find information about his life as a musician. Would the story of a suspected murder have reached the newspapers?! Or is all far fetched? Will I ever know?
