Tried contacting the Frankfort Library but no success.
Does anyone have access there and wouldn't mind having a look for me.
I am happy to meet expenses.

THomas Rowles died on 1oth September 1926 at Road District 5, Union, Illiinois. (WW1 Veteran)
There was an obituary published in an English newspaper which reads:-
ROWLES - West Frankfort, Illinios, U.S.A. died 10th September 1926, age 41 years.

His family remembers that there was a newspaper article about his death as he was previously
badly injured in a mining accident and had a metal plate inserted in his skull which shortly afterwards became detached and caused his death.

Which newspaper was this likely to have been published in.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE TO FIND THIS ARTICLE PLEASE.

The Daily American was an American daily newspaper in West Frankfort, Illinois, in operation from March 1920 until March 2015.

newspapers.com seems to have only a single issue of this title, dating from 1955.

West Frankfort was formerly home to the Daily American Newspaper, which operated for nearly 100 years. The newspaper was replaced by the West Frankfort Gazette, and replaced again by the Franklin County Gazette as of 2020.

Thanks Alan for your reply.
That doesn't look hopeful though.
You would have thought there would have been an archive somewhere but apprently not.

BREAKING NEWS
I have just been informed by a member of his family that the mining accident which badly injured him happened before he moved to Illinios.
It happened in Ohio in a coal mine. It must have been between 1919 and 1926.
Does anyone know which newspaper it might have been reported in.
The article is reputed to have told of a metal plate being inserted in the skull which sadly then became detached and caused his death.

Ohio is a big place with many newspapers.  Do you know what area he lived in?

1920 US census
Ohio, Jefferson County, Steubenville
Thomas Rowles, lodger, 36, arrived 1918, born England, coal miner
in the house of George Eddy (coal miner) and family. The couple and the older children were also born in England.

newspapers.com has two Steubenville newspapers, the Herald-Star and the True American, but neither of them cover the period in question.

It happened in Ohio in a coal mine. It must have been between 1919 and 1926.

Unless he went back to work right before the census, perhaps his accident occurred after January 1920.
