Abbreviation on 1939 register
« on: Sunday 18 December 22 22:55 GMT (UK) »
Hello
Whilst looking on the 1939 register I came across an amendment in green ink, that added a second first name. This amendment also contained an abbreviation FP IA  LD and the date 7.9.77. Any ideas what this means?

There are many threads on here about the abbreviations used on the 1939 register. I'm not sure what your specific ones mean, however in general it means something was altered - in your case on 7 Sept 1977.

This quote from a familysearch article about it:
Deciphering the annotations and notes in the Register
The 1939 Register is littered with annotations and notes.  There has been no master index made of the abbreviations and code letters used and as the books were annotated by a lot of different people for about 60 years, for a variety of purposes we may never know the meaning of all the scribbles.  However many we have been able to decipher.
    • NR = National Register
    • CR = Central Register
    • I/D = Identity Card
    • M/C = Medical Card

Thank you Maddy52. I have seen quite a lot of questions and advice online on various sites but nothing that sheds any light on this particular annotation. I thought it might be worth asking just in case someone has managed to decipher this.
Once again thank you for the guidance.

Maybe if you tell us who the person is and where they are living we can look at the entry ourselves.

This might help.
On the 1939 Register where someone has re-married you will see a date and a code such as EDA 1 c NR 213, EDA. refers to the enumeration code for the district that reported the change and 1.C.NR213 is the ref no. for the form used to record it. If you use the GRO ref code at the following link https://www.findmypast.co.uk/articles/1939-register-enumeration-districts you will see that EDA refers to Hampshire &  Municipal Borough of Aldershot. The date is when the register was altered, this could be when the person was divorced or married.
