ID Family members with no Maiden name
« on: Tuesday 20 December 22 17:12 GMT (UK) »
Don't know if this will help anyone else.

When I have a female married in to a family but no maiden name I now record thus:
Thomas Browne married Elizabeth so I now use the format to ID her as
Elizabeth [mBrowne]

It helps to narrow down which Elizabeth it is then if/when I discover her maiden name I can change it.

Hope this helps.

I use "Elizabeth [wife of nnnn Thomas SMITH] //" where "nnnn" is the numeric individual ID of the spouse.

Because there may often be more than one Thomas SMITH (as an example) in my tree, the individual ID tells me which of those individuals she is the wife or partner of, and the two slashes in the software that I use, denote that none of the preceding characters are her actual surname, and her maiden name has not been entered.
