Can anyone provide information on Marion, she married Captain Henry Harper  Lomax in England then sailed to Auckland Islands around 1850.  Would like to know what ship she sailed on and if her husband sailed with her.

Welcome to RootsChat, dee1951  :)

ADDED: Sorry GG, see you have posted the marriage details already!

Henry Harper Lomax married Marion Barret in Kensington, London in 2nd Qrt 1844 Vol 3/pg 208.

Is the daughter Marion the line you are descended from?

Birth 1840 4th Qrt - Marion Harcourt Barret  Westminster - 1/ 102

From what I can see, the marriage did not fare well it seems. By 1846 they were in court due to his failure to provide for her. I think, from the way the case was reported at the time, Henry was very unbalanced/unsound of mind when he appeared in court. Commented by witnesses that this was a regular occurence. Not clear what the finals were on this.

Cannot see them together after this time.

He ended up in both a workhouse and also an asylum for some time. He was found dead in 1861 in Wiltshire. His sister was able to identify him at the time. A short summary here www.geni.com/people/Henry-Lomax/6000000036210234065 but original records are available to confirm these details which I have been looking at.

Marion went on to have a relationship with a James Fougere and son James born? James Fougere, a widower and tailor by trade showing on the 1851 census in London.

Did they both leave with the children after the 1851 census I wonder?

There is a possible daughter showing for them:

Catherine Julia Fougere
Birth 10 Oct 1852 Tasmania
Registration Place Westbury, Tasmania, Australia
Father James Fougere
Mother Marion Barret

Window for travel. More children followed Catherine.

What do you know of this possible marriage (I am curious now!).

Boswell Danby Danvers
Marriage Year 1863
Marriage Place New Zealand
Spouse Marion Lomax

She shows as Marion Danvers on her gravestone from the photo at the cemetery which I saw....which of course may not be hers without confirming her death details ::)

There is a newspaper report in the Warminster Herald dated 8 June 1861.  It states that Henry Lomax requested shelter in the local Police Station in Calne.  He was allowed to do so and was found dead the following morning.  There was a letter referring to a Henry Lomax who served in the army in the Bermudas in 1830.  Not clear if the deceased was the person alluded to in the letter.  The inquest returned a verdict of "died from a visitation of God".

I cannot find any death record for him.

James Fougere looks to have made a speedy exit after the conception of his last daughther with Marion Barret, (Emily Helen Florence Fougere born on 13 April 1861 in Ahuriri, Napier, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand).

On 19 Aug 1861 in Great Boughton, Cheshire, England, he is showing as having married Mary Whitehead or Ogden, widow.

He died in Lancashire 1891.
