Please help with the profession of the groom in this 1884 marriage Rose to Pearce.
It is the second word that I am stuck with.

Thanks Kay and Tony,
I was hesitant about "board", as it seemed to be short a letter.
He was in prison two years later as an insolvent accountant. I am trying to work out how someone with virtually no schooling became an accountant.  ???
