Here's a possible Florence Britton (sic) in 1881 - age is slightly out, but nothing unusual for census...

24 Bevan St, Lowestoft:

Mary A Britton - Head - Widow - 41
Florence Britton - Dau - unmarr. - 20 - Fishing Net Maker
Laura L Britton - Dau - unmarr. - 20 - Fishing Net Maker
Eliza R Britton - Dau - 14 - General Servant
Caroline M Britton - Dau - 10 - Scholar
Richard C Britton - Son - 6 - Scholar
Thomas G Britton - Son - 4 - Scholar
Sarah J Britton - Dau - 2
Mary L Swan - Gdau - 5 - Scholar
Jemima Smith - Visitor - 19 - Fishing Net Maker

All born Lowestoft, except Jemima, b. Barking, Essex

A Richard Britteon of the right age/birthplace to be the Richard above shows up on the 1901 census as a seaman.

Keep the seaman Peter Walker in reserve just in case - I have at least one married woman recorded on census as unmarried because she's not with her family, not to mention another claiming to be a widow when her ex-husband is living just round the corner!

Many thanks for the excellent detective work.

The leads look very promising.

The Walker side seems a bit trickier.

Does anyone have any Walker links in Lowestoft for Gertrude's siblings?
