Thanks everyone.

I've decided that it is "Last Gleam".   Turns out that that is not a particularly original painting title for a pastoral sunset, but it is apt.

I thought I'd try to find other examples of his handwriting, and luckily the only one I found has both a 'G' and an 'S' - 'G' in his name (written rather than signed) and 'S' in Surrey. The letter here is far more like the 'G' than the 'S'.
