artist signature on watercolour painting, please help - dated 1901

I have an artist's signature on a watercolour painting I cannot work out, please help! It is dated 1901.

You may also be interested to see a photograph of it attached here. It turns out he may be an interesting gentleman, and that this was taken just before he died in the Second Boar War.

Could be E Pepler. There were Peplers in South Africa, but I don't see any Poplers.

Also as a possible, the name PEPTER does also occur in South Africa at that time.

No I didn't miss Sugarbakers link, which is to the same picture. I reckoned the auction house had guessed the name, as we are doing. As far as I can see there is no other record of an artist named E Popler.
