Thomas Boleyn is claiming that Robert Philpot owes him 40 shillings. Philpot hasn’t turned up in court, and according to the sheriff he has no goods that could be distrained, so Philpot is to be arrested and brought to court within 15 days of Easter.

My word! That was quick! Thank you again ever so much - you really are so very helpful.

I am not sure if this is 1427 or 1472 (the indices show both dates). But I can check this myself. Ah yes 1427 is the correct date.

I wonder why a clerk in Maidstone would lend Philpot money? I suspect that Thomas Boleyn is the same family (or even the same person) as Thomas Bollyng the chantry priest of Godmersham (1375 - still alive 1401) as the Bollyngs/Bullyings had interests in Crundale and neighbouring Godmersham from 1303 onwards. Nice to have a new link with a clerk in Maidstone.

Maybe NOT related to the Bollyngs of Crundale/Godmersham unless there is actually a link between the Kent and Norfolk Bolleyns

Thomas Boleyn, LL.B (c. 1400-1472), (often Master Thomas Boleyn, clerk; by some now designated Thomas Boleyn II[1]), was the Master of Gonville Hall, Cambridge from 1454 to 1472, the seventh to hold that position.[3] During the later 1440s, through three separate acts of foundation, he was one of the small group appointed to formulate the statutes of what became Queens' College in Cambridge.[4] His brother Sir Geoffrey Boleyn, Lord Mayor of London 1457-58, was the great-grandfather of Anne Boleyn, Queen consort of England.[5]

Thomas Boleyn was the eldest surviving son of Geoffrey Boleyn (died 1440), yeoman, of Salle, Norfolk,[6] and his wife Alice, daughter and heiress of Sir John Bracton of Norfolk. Geoffrey and Alice Boleyn of Salle are commemorated by a monumental brass in Salle Church, which shows the two figures frontally, standing, set side by side, with a memorial inscription beneath (referring also to their children) and a scroll flying between them with a Latin prayer, "God be merciful to us sinners".[7] Around 1730 Thomas Martin of Palgrave saw two subsidiary brass groups in the slab showing their five sons and their four daughters: these have long been missing.[8][9] Thomas was the grandson of Thomas Boleyn I (died 1411) of Salle and his wife Agnes.[10]

AALT shows the plea roll as CP 40/841, which dates from 1472 (as confirmed by TNA Discovery), not 1427.

Here's the link. Not familial after all, the Maidstone college received income from the parishes of Linton, Farleigh, Sutton and Crundale. Philpot obviously rented land in Crundale owned by the college hence the debt.

The [Maidstone] College was founded by Archbishop of Canterbury William Courtenay in 1395.[1] Courtenay died in 1396 and the College and church were completed by his successor, Thomas Arundel. Richard II endowed the College with land and income from the Hospital of St Peter and St Paul in Maidstone and from the parishes of Linton, Farleigh, Sutton and Crundale.
