The niece is Martha Russell, nee Walker, daughter of John R. Marwick's Cambridgeshire, England sister, Sarah nee Marwick.   She died at Weston, Ohio in 1927.

I wonder if she could have been adopted or in the process of adoption?  I think it was Ohio that seemed to have a lot of adoptions around this time?

 husband adopted a child and then had 4 of their own.  Makes you think!

Sorry, I haven’t been following the timeline (doing two other things at the same time)  .  Do you know when (decade) and where (country or state) Martha Russell adopted and what was the gender of the adopted child?

The timeline is all wrong for Martha, she was born in 1858 and the child she adopted was born in 1879 and her elder sister's son.  The semi-tragic story is that the child was a twin and both boys were to be adopted but one contracted chicken pox and couldn't travel.  Martha migrated in 1881 and the brothers never saw each other again, but both knew the story.

That’s so sad.  Hopefully, they were at least happy with their childhoods.

I was just curious about the adoption in case the Marwicks adopted in a similar fashion to Martha’s adoption.  Maybe someone might be able to find a short article about Clara Belle in a local paper.
