Trying to find Fred Moss b 1795 Suffolk

I wonder if anyone could help ? My g,g,g, ? grandfather Robert Moss (dob 1796) is in the 1851 census with his wife Harriet and children, living in the 4th Battalion Military at Shorecliffe Portsmouth,
I have been trying to find out more about him, was he in the navy, army or a civilian, running the officers mess ?

I know he must have spent time in Ireland as one of his children was born there !

My mums surname was Moss !

Any info on his regiment, position or any info at all on him i would be very grateful

Yes, you have the right chap I found in born down south in Suffolk and that he was in the officers mess and that he had a child born in Ireland - must be his army career that took them there?

I'm not sure what ANC is to look at his record ?

thank you so much as the family ended up in North Yorkshire as various members were employed on the trains !
