Hi please can anyone help work out the maiden name of Mrs Mary Stewart on her sons marriage certificate. It looks something like Cromley. Thanks

I see ......Crombley.
Go to the record of their marriage.
or back through the Census to find her when she was single.

Like Maggsie, I think it's Crombley.

Thanks everyone. I’ve tried to trace her on ancestry but I’m struggling. I think she may have been born in Ireland

I have found a James Stewart born in Scotland with the mothers name as Mary Crumbley so that could be her.

A sibling's birth:

Thomas Charles Stewart
Birth 4 Oct 1863 Port Glasgow, Renfrew
Father John Stewart
Mother Mary Crumley

From SP Index, the one you mention you found:

John William STEWART
Mother's maiden name CRUMLEY
1859
Ref 574 / 200
Port Glasgow

There is also an RC batism for this John:

John William STUART
JOHN STUART / MARY CRONLY
Birth 1/8/1859/ Bapt. 7/8/1859
Port Glasgow, St John's

Monica

PS: Have you managed to find them in the early censuses? I failed  ::)

So hard to see them anywhere!

Have you managed to find anything more for them?

Ah, can see them in 1881 now:

John Stewart 19 Boiler maker b. Pt Glasgow, Renfrew
Mary Stewart 57 Mother b. Ireland
Elizh Gavin 17 boarder b. Glasgow

Address: 29 Warroch St, Glasgow/ Anderston

Wonder if Thomas died young?

If parents John and Mary married in Ireland, Thomas's birth reg should include date and place of parents marriage. Often a guide when parents were born outside of Scotland.
