Birth registrations 1915
« on: Saturday 28 January 23 14:14 GMT (UK) »
Hi there, does anyone know what the ‘regulations’ were for births registered in 1915?

We have a birth certificate where the birth is listed with the mothers first name and surname formally (another surname).

There is also a father listed with the same surname as the mother.

However it has been suggested that the birth certificate is wrong, that she had never married and that the child was illegitimate.

So I guess my ask is could the birth certificate be so wrong and how if the informant was the mother on her own. Thanks

If the mother was the sole informant, and the father is named, then she was claiming to be married to him (and saying that he was the father of the child).

Whether she was or not is another matter. She wouldn't have to prove it ( and still wouldn't today).

Are you sure it says that?
And not "formerly"?

The 2 words have different meanings! ;)

Wow I had no idea!

As you have the fathers christian name & surname & the mothers christian name & maiden name - you should be able to find their marriage on www.freebmd.org.uk

And that appears not to exist CarolW though there is a part of me that thinks confirmation of it does exist somewhere!
