Convict Department Corro - Page 47
« on: Friday 03 February 23 09:15 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

Can anyone help with the following? Cheers.

So far I have

Deloraine
22nd September 1845

Sir,

I beg to inform you that I held my inspection for August at the Depot today.
The men were more orderly than they have been but did not look so clean or so steady as those of the regular stations.
The clothing was in bad order, and many of the men were without bedding. There were none in store to supply the deficiencies.
The provisions have been very good and well cooked but the bread though otherwise food has been ? in ? of the indifferent quality of the yeast.
The Barracks cells to were in very fair order but I observed that many of the bunk boards had disappeared even since my last inspection.

. . . .. .  the bread though otherwise good  has been sourish in cons-
equence  of the indifferent quality of the yeast . . . .

I think you have the rest correct.
