Convict Arrival record
« on: Friday 03 February 23 10:50 GMT (UK) »
Hello,
Am totally new to RootsChat so bear with me. I need a bit of help with this handwriting. Its on a convict arrival record and it is a colum titled 'Remarks', all the words written in this section appear to be names which I take to be next of kin.
I know what I need it to say but would like to have my suspicions confirmed by others if possible. It is the middle row that I am would like confirmation on but I have included the row above and below to help with the writing style.
Many thanks

Many Thanks Shaun. You have confirmed most of what I thought. I believe his wife was called Maria, the letter in front does look abit odd and is always follows by a woman's name.
It so great to have the rest confirmed, phew, I am barking up the right tree!

This looks like a convict record, Tasmania, 1840+.

If you give the name of the convict, and other details, that, plus the family as recorded might make it possible to locate the convict in the 1841 Census.

He is recorded as married?

Hi Wivenhoe,
Well done! Yes he arrived in Van Diemens land in 1853. He is married on the 1851. His first wife died in 1824 and he married again in 1846. I've checked his siblings and the two brothers end up in Liverpool and Birkenhead and the sister in Yorkshire so that's correct for Wakefield. Yey! Many thanks. I'm glad I've found this forum.

Wivenhoe -are you familiar with these records? This chap had a grown up son who isn't named in this section. Can't help but wonder why.

Is his son not Theo, as appears in the bottom panel?

 At, possibly, Pou(l)ton?

Hi, Thanks but the bottom row refers to a different convict. My chap is the middle one. I included the one above and the below my entry so people could get a better idea of the handwriting style.
