Details of birth Baptism Donald Clark(e) 1777
« on: Tuesday 07 February 23 22:37 GMT (UK) »
I have the image for the birth of Donald Clarke 05 DEC 1777 in Petty, Inverness-shire, Scotland that list baptism on 12 Dec 1777.  Born to William Clarke and Lydia Clarke.

I see a Charles Clarke following 12th December but can't decipher what follows Charles Clarke.
Dunbar, Clark,Bain, Lipp, Campbell, Pope, Barnard, Handcock, McAdams,Creath

So far I can read  XXXXXX Ewan McEwen or Ewen McEwen - second attempt more likely.

Hi, mcadamsd,

The word following "Charles Clarke" is the name of the farm he lived on, same with the word following the second witness.  Here is my intrepretation:

Charles Clarke Urlurhust & Ewan M'Ewen Scottack

Scottack appears to still be in existence but you will need an ordnance survey map of the early 1800s to attempt to locate the homestead of Charles Clarke.

I hope this helps.

It says Urlarhust. I can't see it on the OS map, but here it is in the mid 18th century. Roy's map often makes spelling errors in place names. Here it says W[este]r Urlathurst.

Well found GR2, I spent quite some time yesterday pouring over old maps looking for it, but didn't see this one.  :)
