Robert Atchison Carruthers
« on: Thursday 16 February 23 12:57 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find any information on Robert Atchison Carruthers.  I have a marriage to Hannah Rigg in Liverpool March 1848. Occupation Mariner.  Fathers Name Robert Carruthers also a Mariner.

Their second daughter born in 1856 has him as deceased.  The only Robert Carruthers death Certificate from Liverpool around that time is for a 12 year old boy.

Possibly your Robert Carruthers?

Using     https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk
Search term....Captain Carruthers.....1853       Lancashire
finds.....Lancaster Gazette 30 April 1853   p5

"...apparent means of escape from an imaginary danger, resulted in the destruction of twelve lives. The brig Richardson, Captain Carruthers, 203 tons register, sailed from this port on Thursday, the 31st ult., for Liverpool, where it was intended she should cargo for Newfoundland. At a late hour that night, or early on the following morning, she went on shore at Duddon, in the southern part of this county, where she lost her foretopmast, and experienced ......"

that is all you get to see without paying a subscription.

There is a "free weekend" on newspapers.com this weekend - you can see an article about this event:

The Bradford Observer
Thursday, May 05, 1853

It says the captain and 5 others were rescued whilst 12 died.

So possibly not "your" CARRUTHERS.  :-\

If Robert was born 1835, he was pretty young to marry in 1848.

Where were the children born? I don't see any CARRUTHERS (or similar) children born 1856 with mothers maiden name RIGG?

Jane CARRUTHERS Mar qtr 1852 Liverpool, mmn RIGG
William Thomas CARRUTHERS Sep qtr 1853 Liverpool, mmn RIGG

When you say "Their second daughter born in 1856 has him as deceased. " do you mean at her birth, or later on her marriage?

Modified to add:
Was daughter Hannah born in Wrexham? Mar qtr 1856, mmn WRIGG.

Possible first daughter:
CARRUTHERS, JANE        RIGG
GRO Reference: 1852  M Quarter in LIVERPOOL  Volume 08B  Page 140

In the 1871 census, widow Hannah, Jane, Hannah Jr, plus an Ann Carruthers born Wales, (edit, born Manchester) so not sure if this fits in any way:

CARRUTHERS, HANNAH        WRIGG
GRO Reference: 1856  M Quarter in WREXHAM  Volume 11B  Page 295
