Brownlow St Liverpool
« on: Monday 20 February 23 17:31 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I'm currently trying to do my family tree and found that in 1901 census my great grandma Mary Francis Bradley (Brachley) was living at Winchester house on Brownlow St Liverpool with her mum Grace. Just wondering if anyone has any idea what Winchester house was or maybe have any old pics of that area. I'm thinking it may possibly have been a boarding house or something but then she and her mum disappear off the face of the earth until 1921 when my great gran appears again married in Bolton.
Thanks

The 1901 census gives the occupation of the head of the house as Monthly nurse and private nursing house if I am reading it correctly.  There are a couple of young babies there with their mothers, maybe some of the other women are expecting

I doubt that there would be any more information unless it is mentioned in a newspaper.  Monthly nurses operated from their own homes and can often be seen on census staying with a family where they have a young baby.

William English appears to have died in 1907 and there is a marriage in Bolton 1913 of Grace English to Thomas Hardman and this death

Deaths Jun 1938
HARDMAN    Grace    60    Bolton    8c   295

In 1911 there is this entry but it does not fit the 1901 details

Grace English    30 b Glasgow - 1901 birthplace is Calton NB
Mary Jane English 7 b Bolton - 1901 is Liverpool aged 1mth & she is Mary Frances

There is no birth for a Mary Jane English with mmn Bradley in Bolton

A Mary Frances Bradley born 15 March 1901 was baptised on 1 May 1901 at St Francis Xavier RC Church Liverpool. The mother of the child was Grace Bradley. Godmother Mary Connelly.

The image of the baptism is on Ancestry. The register is in Latin but I have written it in English.

There’s a Mary Frances Bradley marrying on 4 September 1920 at All Souls C of E church Bolton to Norman Henry Smalley. The space for father’s name for Mary Frances is blank.
